An Interview With Ella Tubman
Ella Tubman is a Sunshine Coast based videographer and photographer with a unique style and has found success working abroad and at home. Her creative and fun videos remind us of ABC’s program Rage, vintage surf vids from the 90’s and the tv show Puberty Blues. Ella has worked with brands like Ripcurl, Arnhem clothing, Ghanda and jay jays plus more. We were stoked she took the time to answer some questions for us and can’t wait to see what the future holds for her.
Meet Ella…
Hey Ella, tell us about your background, where are you from?
I'm a nineteen-year-old videographer based on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.
I make all sorts of videos... Creative weird videos on Instagram and then during the week I'm filming events, corporate videos, promotional videos, real estate or wedding videos. For brands and people around QLD.
When did you first discover your passion for videography?
I think when Youtube started to become big I found myself glued to it and creating videos to upload with my friends.
You have worked with Jayjay’s, Rip Curl and Arnhem Clothing just to name a few. Is there one project that particularly stands out to you? What important lesson did you learn after finishing that project?
A trip to India last year with Arnhem Clothing was pretty crazy for me. As I was 18 and wigging out that I was going to be flown across India with their team to create their campaign content. Still crazy to me haha!
An important lesson that I learnt was to save footage onto a hard drive after each shoot no matter what.
What is your dream assignment?
To be Calvin Klein's video marketer for their advertisements.
What’s the best piece of advice you have ever received?
It's not what you know, it's who you know.
Where do you hope to be at the end of the year?
Hopefully sussing out New York or LA.
Do you have any personal projects we can watch out for in the future?
Hmmm probably some more weird videos on @ellatubmanfilms Instagram for sure!
It’s your turn to dj on a roadie, what’s the first tune you play?
Bad Things by Cailin Russo or Babushka Boi by ASAP Rocky.
What type of work do you hope to specialise in?
Creative brand videos that I can have creative control over or a movie one day would be cool.
Who inspired you the most last year?
Probably the creators of Euphoria, that show is cool!
