Green Patch

Holly Blackmore & Tom Zdraveski

To celebrate my nineteenth lap around the sun, Tom & I camped out in Jervis Bay.

For two city-slickers, that first night was terrifying. Tiny creatures sounded like genuine monsters in those moon-lit hours - the silhouette of grass becoming gigantic echidnas crawling across Tom’s pillow. Morning came with relief and birthday blessings. After a breakfast picnic on the foreshore, we set out to explore the surrounding area.

And stumbled upon this gem of a cove. Secluded, accessible only via rocks, ours for the time-being. Turquoise water and tainted sky. Birds gathered on the point.

We returned the next day when the sun was out in full force for a paddle, towel extended upon the whitest sand in the world. Taking spontaneous snapshots on our old-school polaroid. A simple weekend in the wilderness and the water.

Here’s to another orbit.
