Stephanie Nagy explores the relationship between minimal and maximal use of colour using complex arrangements of culturally based patterns, motif and language. Patterns within Nagy’s everyday experience gain significance and formal ambiguity when translated into expressive texta drawings and multiplex abstract paintings. Nagy’s work considers intuition, spatial congruity and decorative art as a means to explore her identity as an Australian born Hungarian artist. Because the work is a combination of complex patterns and complimentary colours, it becomes a self generated machine for paintings.
