‘Deep Black Sea’ dropped on April 29, how does it feel to have this one out in the world?

It feels great to have Deep Black Sea out. Each track that goes out into the world is one more story I get to share with everyone.

How did ‘Deep Black Sea’ come to be? Were you listening to any music at the time that inspired the track?

Deep Black Sea was created when I was sitting on my balcony one night listening to ‘You are all that I am not’ by band of skulls.  A melody was sparked and the then the feeling of having a  secret that I couldn’t let come to light. So I used a past experience to bring the idea to life.

How did it feel being able to record ‘Deep Black Sea’ in LA with Chris Collins?

It was one of my first  sessions and to be honest it was kind of magical. Chris asked if I had any ideas, I said I did and we did one take for vocals and Chris worked around that one take. The experience was one I’ll never forget.

You’ve also announced that you’re releasing your debut EP ‘Little Demons’ on Friday June 12. What can listeners expect from the EP?

Creating ‘Little Demons’ was therapeutic and I hope that some of the tracks will be for other listeners to. It shares my past experiences and some of the things that haunt me. Relationships, secrets, loss of a loved one, sadness and finishing myself.  This EP will dive deep and i hope it will have listeners thinking and letting go.

How did you decide on the title ‘Little Demons’?

The title idea Little Demons actually came from a bottle of wine I was drinking while thinking about what the EP should be called. The name resonated because these songs are apart of my past and these memories are with me always. They follow me where ever I go.

You’ve lived in so many different places, four different cities and three different countries, do you think that you draw inspiration from these different place? How do your experiences shape the way your write your music?

I’ve been travelling since I was baby. In Hong Kong my mum went to an Indian drum concert whilst pregnant with me and the moment the drums started I was kicking to the beat. That’s when my mum new I’d be involved with music. America really shaped me as a person. I had some really tough times there with certain people,  school was really intense and I didn’t know what group I belonged too. At 17 I got into the Boston Berklee 5 week music program and during that experience I really found myself. I made relationships with some incredible people from around the world who told me their stories, which in return made me want to tell stories in songs. I made the choice to go art school majoring in music after that and met the people who are some of my closest friends now. I grew to really love alternative blues, rock and New Orleans jazz. Going to Vietnam also opened my eyes to new a whole new mindset. I think my spirituality grew a lot more after travelling there. People were just living! Travelling opens something up for me and I can be an entirely different person; Open to different things

What does the future hold for D’arcy Spiller?

The future holds shows when possible, travel because I get an itch and can’t stay in the same place for too long (it’s the hunger for new ideas and knowledge). There will be also be a lot of collaborating with great people!
